I visited the Republic of Mauritius on an overseas business trip . I conducted a coastal field survey and gave a lecture on evacuation simulation at the University of Mauritius .

モーリシャスの東海岸へ現地調査に行きました。景観を大切にする住民の意見を尊重し、本来計画していた堤防より低く設置していました。THE DISTRICT COUNCIL OF GRAND PORTにて行われていた、国家防災管理センターと協力した避難行動のシミュレーションで貴重なお話を伺いました。住民の方も積極的に参加し、災害時に鳴るサイレンも実際に聞くことができました。

Professor Arikawa gave a lecture on evacuation at the JICA Chair Conference at the University of Mauritius. About 100 students and working adults attended. Although the University of Mauritius does not have a coastal engineering department, they listened to his lecture on evacuation seriously and actively asked questions.
In the afternoon, we taught participants how to conduct evacuation simulations in a hands-on class. Participants performed calculations and even visualized the results on their own computers.

We conducted a survey of the creatures living around the coral reefs at Blue Bay. The sea was a beautiful emerald green, and there were many fish.
